For immediate release:
STARSHIP ENTERPRISES ANNOUNCES NEW GLOBAL CHAT LIVE CHATLINK HUBBING SERVICE
Starship Enterprises Inc. has announced the official opening of their new bbs
chat linking service, providing a centralized location for systems wishing to
link their bbs chat areas with systems around the world.
Utilizing their international x.25 network makes it possible for sysops to
dial local phone numbers in over 250 cities in the United States and Canada
to connnect to the Global Chat LIVE! system in Rutherford NJ for chat and
uucpmail feeds between 6pm and 6am weekdays, all day on weekends, for the low
cost of $2/hour. Unlike the 'chat linking' services provided by other
services, Global Chat LIVE! is not limited to only MajorBBS systems, but also
provides linking capabilities for TBBS sysops utilizing eSoft's Ultrachat
option module, and any other bbs system which provides for chat linking where
local echo can be turned off. Additionally, Global Chat LIVE! can be accessed
by bbs's connected to the internet by simply telnetting to starship.com or IP
address 192.204.28.48 for the same low rate, something other 'chat link'
services can't do.
Starship Enterprises plans on installing a native TCP/IP setup in the near
future which will allow even lower rates for these services in the near
future.
How does it work?
Basically you provide Starship Enterprises with a user id and password in
advance either by sending email to sysop@starship.com or logging on the
Starship ][ BBS at 201-935-2194 and leaving a comment to sysop. A user
account will be set up and when you log on the first time, the system will ask
you to purchase time online via your credit card, after which you're dropped
right into the chat area of your choice (or UUCP mail if you wish to
purchase newsgroup feeds). Both 'public' and 'adult' chat areas are available.
Starship Enterprises can provide TBBS sysops with an ultrachat or PIMP script
to perform the links automagically.
The x.25 network is run on a 56kbps digial line into the Starship ][, and
plans are in the works to speed that up even more after installing native
TCP/IP. All the x.25 dial-ins around the country now sport a minimum speed of
9600 baud via v.32 compatible modems.
If you don't have internet access now, you can call 1-800-521-2733 to find out
if there's a local x.25 dial in near you. The x.25 service is also available
from Toronto and will be available in Vancouver, Calgary, and Montreal soon.
